This 1-day course provides a comprehensive overview of the main legislative and guidance documents, relative to the control of Legionnaire’s disease and the disinfection of water systems, as well as practical guidance on how to carry out a risk assessment of a cold and hot water system in a building and make recommendations to rectify the problems.

It is designed to meet the requirements of the revised Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and Guidance: Legionnaire’s disease: The control of Legionella bacteria in water systems, and the technical guidance HSG274 Part 2: The control of Legionella in hot and cold-water systems (HSG274)

Course information

The course modules cover:
o The background to the disease
o Causes of the disease and how it is transmitted
o Sources of the bacteria
o How to manage and control the risk of Legionellosis
o How to carry out the cleaning and disinfection of cold and hot water systems
o The basic cold and hot water design principles and risks associated with Legionella
o Practical guidance on how to carry out a risk assessment of a cold and hot water system in a building and make recommendations to rectify the problems
o Guidance on how to collect, transport and submit water samples to be analysed for Legionella bacteria

1 day (8:30am – 4:30pm)

This course consists of 3 assessments.

Both theory papers consist of 25 questions which are MCQ. 45 minutes is allowed for each assessment.

There is an additional written report on the disinfection process.

One practical assessment.
